The 27th running of the Coeur d'Alene Marathon and the 13th running of the half-marathon was held Sunday, May 30th, 2004.

Marathon Course Description

The 26.2-mile course begins and ends at North Idaho College.  With an initial circuit along "The Dike Road", the course follows a long flat loop out to the base of Canfield Butte in Dalton Gardens. Progressing towards the southeast part of town, the course connects to the Centennial Trail, following Cd'A Lake Drive for its entirety to Higgins Point. The Marathon traverses the Bennett Bay Hill twice; a steep climb at 14.5 miles, and a long gradual return climb at 18.5 miles.  The Centennial Trail segment features a spearated lane for runners next to the beachfront. Returning to the city, the course passes vintage houses on East and West Lakeshore Drive, as well as the Coeur d'Alene Resort courtyard, City Hall, and the Coeur d'Alene City Park with a gentle loop.  With just a kilometer to go, the finish can be seen (and heard) with a finishing repeat of the Dike Road Circuit.

Half-Marathon Course Description

The 13.1-mile course also begins and ends at North Idaho College.  Starting an hour later, the course branches off 7th Street in downtown, turning south instead of north.  East on Mullan Ave brings runners onto the Centennial Trail and then turn south at Cd'A Lake Drive (22nd Street south). The course follows the same path as the marathon, but run a shorter out-and-back, reversing at the summit of the Bennett Bay hill, and following the same course as the marathon to the finish.

5K Fun Run/Walk

The 5K course starts and ends at North Idaho College and loops around the Dike Road and City Park. There will be a timing clock at the finish line, but no official times or awards will be given out.

The run benefits TESH Inc. which is a nationally accredited community-based rehabilitation organization that assists people in our community with a wide variety of disabilities and disadvantages to achieve their highest level of independence.
